It has been one of those days. I am thankful to have my eldest home from school again - we are having a great time! I loaded up all the kidlets and cautiously ventured out to the gym this morning through the ice. When I got back I immediately knew that I was in for a big suprise (yes, the smell was in the air). Our sweet Sheltie Chance decided to get in the trash and help himself to the tulips I threw away .... what the heck? He was eating the green stems! Now, I know he is wayy smarter than this. And then he proceeded to get sick and leave me 4 - yes, 4 piles of nasty poo to clean up off the carpet. So much fun! He has now been banned to the patio for the remainder of the day. I tell ya, it never stops around here friends - one big circus!

Monday: Crockpot BBQ Chicken served with fresh green beans

Tuesday: Crockpot Hobo Dinner - absolutely delicious and I don't really care for cabbage

Thursday: spaghetti

Friday: Roast in the crockpot

Guess what I did Friday? Dawn at Dawn's Diversions orchestrated a get together at a local restaurant (Fox and the Hound) for OK bloggers and at the very last minute I decided to go. I had the best time! Conversations about our favorite blogs, ideas for topics to post about and even some neat give-away ideas filled the air. Many new relationships were formed. My hubby thought I was nuts running off to meet strangers, but as you can see they were just the sweetest ladies and I enjoyed getting to meet all of them!

I love these pillows. They would fit well in several rooms in my house. Botanicals, birds, butterflies.....right up my alley!

Another great find from Ballards. I love anything French looking and this is taken straight out of a train station in Paris.

This mirror makes me giddy! It's just darling! I love the birdcage design and they have it hanging in front of a bookcase.

Swissmar Borner Slicer

I love this thing! I forgot I even had a mandolin slicer, much less that it was called a mandolin, but a neighbor mentioned she was given one recently and it sparked my memory. My mom gave this one to me and I have decided I am going to get it out and use it a lot more - it is soo easy. What have I been waiting for? I made scalloped potatoes last night and they turned out fabulous.

The color BLUE. I am searching for the best blue to paint my master. I may have found it.

This room is fabulous and the wall color - just gorgeous! This was done by my good friend Sarah at Vintage Lily when she worked full-time as a designer for a commercial firm. She is very talented in many things, much less decorating. She has great taste!

I love this show! I am addicted to it..it's definitely my guilty pleasure. Hubby has absolutely no idea why I watch such a "dumb" show as he calls it, but I enjoy tuning in to see what the girls are gonna do next. FUN!

This is my sweet K in her way cute tutu made by my best real-life buddy Jenn at Memoirs of a Southern Domestic Goddess. Isn't it darling? I love how it looks on my baby girl. She makes the cutest things and sells them on her blog. I also have a picture frame she made which I adore. Go by and check her out!

I got an award back at the first of January and am just now blogging about it.....whew! Gina at Six In The Country gave this to me...thanks Gina!

Menu Plan Monday!

A new week is here..yea! Somehow, the weekend is never long enough, is it?

Here is what is on the menu for our home this week:

Monday: Rachael Ray's Indian Summer Chili
Tuesday: Chicken soft tacos
Wednesday: Ziti Bake
Thursday: Crock pot Thursday: Pork chops and potatoes
Friday: going out

I had a request to post the recipe for the oh-so-tasty chicken/green bean and potatoes dish I made the other night (that was quite a fiasco)!

Potato-Green Bean-Chicken Dish

Ingredients:
4-6 large chicken breasts (thawed)
3 large baking potatoes (pealed and cut up) or several sliced red potatoes
2-3 cans of green beans (drained)
1 stick butter
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup water
2 packages Good Season Italian Dressing Mix
Black pepper, salt and parsley flakes (optional)

Directions:

Preheat over to 225. Put all above ingredients into a large casserole dish.
Mix butter, oil, water and seasoning mix together in a bowl.
Pour seasoning mixture over the chicken, potatoes, and green beans. Garnish with parsley, add salt and pepper.
Cover with foil. Bake at 225 for 2 hours. Then, turn up oven to 350 and cook for an additional 30-45 mins just to make sure that the chicken is well cooked and potatoes are soft. Or, you can slow cook this dish for 5-6 hours on 225.

As most of you know, Kelly had her sweet baby girl Harper yesterday. She needs your prayers to the heavens for her daughter as Harper has had some complications and was flown to my neck of the woods. I know first-hand that she is in excellent care!

God is sovereign, mighty and is the Great Physician! We are in stand in faith that He will restore Harper's body and she will be in complete health soon!

Man, I love this show! I had to TIVO it because I was gone last night with hubby, but you can bet I cranked that thing up as soon as I got home! I really liked last year's winner David Cook. He could perform the socks off just about any song. And do you remember George Michael's performance on the finale? I watched that at least 20 times...his voice was incredible and what a song! Amazing!

What do you think of the new judge Kara DioGuardi? I'm not sure I'm sold on the whole thing..it's weird to me that they would have 4 judges on the show now. Why did they even need a fourth? What happens if there is a tie? She's got great credentials and seems to be nice. I guess we'll see!

That one girl that sang the Heart song Barracuda rocked it! I loved her audition. I also like the cute 16 year old and the girl named Stevie. They had great voices! And what about the oil-field guy from Texas? Gotta give props to my Texas peeps! He could sing pretty well, too. And oh yea, that geeky guy at the end that sang to himself in the closet? My gosh - he had some pipes! He was a big surprise!

Ok, so this is totally late and many of you have watched tonight's episode already. I tivo'd it once again and will be turning it on shortly. I'll be back to give my thoughts on it tomorrow!

Here we are...Tuesday night..quarter to 8...and dinner is still in the oven.

Know the old saying that most people who cook - and cook really well - will tell you? Read the ENTIRE recipe before starting a meal. Hmmm... what a novel idea! They actually might know somethin'!

I was so distracted by things today - trips/errands all over town, taking hubby's car to the repair shop, and feeling not quite up-to-par.

Here's what we should be eating. This little number has to cook at least 3 hours...if not 4. I was given this dish by a church friend of mine when I was on bedrest with K (my daughter). It was absolutely delicious and I have always wanted to make it.

Boy, does it smell good.... should be ready about 8:15...right before bed - yay!

This is what we actually had for dinner - cereal! I'm so glad that my children were very sweet about the whole fiasco.

I'm so glad for a new day tomorrow - thank you Lord! :)

Happy Wednesday!

Wanted to join the all the fun everyone's having over at The Nesting Place. If you haven't been to the party, get over there! She continues to inspire me and is one of the reasons I started this blog.

I didn't go too crazy with my Christmas decor this year. We have some on-going construction and things are a bit displaced right now. Plus, I am finding as the years change, my taste does as well. I have so many fabulous blogger friends that challenge and inspire me to really think outside of the box!

This is the mantel in the den - the only mantel is this house that is really decorated this year. I didn't remove the painting in the background and have mixed feelings about leaving it there...what do you think? Please be honest...it certainly won't hurt my feelings! I am kinda thinking it may need to go...

Very simple - no lights, no ribbon this year. I added some pinecones and a few branches from my front yard tree that you can barely see in the pictures.

I really love the glitter snowflakes - cheap buy at Wal-mart! The reindeer are from Big Lots and they have such a pretty presence on the mantel.

Two of the stockings are missing...hoping my friend will be done making them this week so we can get them monogrammed and hung with the rest of the bunch.

If you have any suggestions for me on how I can tweak the mantel...fire away. Would love to hear from you guys!

This is such a fun video. If you haven't heard of Straight No Chaser, they are a fantastic a cappella group which got its start at Indiana University. The guys gained national attention on YouTube with this video. I think they sound absolutely fantastic and would love to hear them in person. Enjoy!

A Little Something to Ponder...

Howdy ya'll! I have been a busy bee lately...trying to catch up from being gone for a week and getting some Christmas cheer put up around my house! I have decided not to go all out this year....we have several home projects going on and things are a bit scattered.... plus, I have a 19 month old that gets in to everything. Do you remember that stage? I forgot, too...how quickly I am reminded - ha!

I am so ready for some order to my house.....it can get really discouraging. We have painters coming next week to paint some built-in bookshelves in the den and our roof has been an ongoing process now for nearly 2 weeks. It's a big mess! However, I have decided as of today..I am NOT going to lose my joy! My children are healthy, my husband has a job, we have a lovely home and every need is met. I was over at 4 Reluctant Entertainers today and she posted about joy and priorities - thanks, Sandy! In fact, she added this little quote...

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
And today is a gift.

Today is a GIFT - we only have this moment and can never get it back!

My mom emailed this video to me...how timely! It really speaks as to what is truly important this Christmas season - spending time with loved ones, making sweet memories, giving of ourselves and of course, Jesus!

A little trip to Arkansas!

Happy Monday!

Hey ya'll! I'm rushing around today trying to get ready to leave for Texas - whohoo! We are headed to a little West Tx town (po-dunct-ville) to visit hubby's great-grandparents. Nana can cook, and...boy, is it gonna be good! This will probably be my only post this week - hope everyone enjoys their day of thanks!

I had a jam-packed weekend complete with a visit from my aunt and cousin. We headed over to Arkansas for the Dayspring Warehouse Sale and had an absolute blast!! They hold this sale once a year, right before Thanksgiving. If you have never been, it is definitely worth the trip. Dayspring makes all the pretty paper goods and gift items you see in Christian bookstores like Mardels and LifeWay..even Walmart. I got tons of goodies - gorgeous gift bags for 50 cents, note cards 10 for a buck, pretty wrapping paper, day planners, etc. Most of my Christmas shopping is done now - yay!

Next, we headed over to the infamous OOPS store...which is more like a warehouse. It's huge! If you have followed Shannon's blog, then you know about this store. She's gotten lots of cute things there. I think Kelly at Kelly's Korner also mentions it a time or two. This is a fun place, ya'll!

Bought these mercury glass birdies - all for less than $15. The big one broke on the trip back...but, I fixed it!

I had originally planned to write about a few things that I am thankful for today, but I would much rather blog about a topic that is near and dear to my heart: ADOPTION.

November is National Adoption Month

I long to adopt - always have. I was just talking with some girls at MOPS yesterday about my desire to fulfill this long-time desire of my heart. I believe it is something I have been called to do - since I was a little girl - and really pray about God's timing for our family. I think I would adopt a child from every country if it were possible. As of now, I feel called to China, but am aware of the incredible need in other parts of the world, as well, and the country of origin for my future child may change. I sometimes wish they would just give these children away - to loving parents that long to hold them, kiss their little faces, pray for them and give them a place to call home. They need us desperately!

I am always in awe of families that go through the process. I literally have to resist the temptation to walk up to total strangers with adopted kids and start a conversation about their experiences. But stare - yes, I do. I stare long and I stare hard. I love looking at them!

My cousin and his wife tried for years to have a baby. They are now the proud parents of a sweet baby girl by way of local adoption and what a blessing she is! I get to meet this beautiful baby for the first time over Christmas and just want to eat her up!
Her name means: "God has answered". He definitely has!

I have several acquaintances that have adoption blogs and they are such a source of encouragement.

I know that through adoption I can touch another child's life and show him/her God's grace, love and faithfulness - the same that He shows me each and every day. It is my responsibility to do this - I honestly believe it! And I know in turn, that I (and my family) will be blessed and changed in ways we cannot even yet imagine.

I have really missed you...really! Hope all of you are doing well.....

Can you believe that it's time to start decorating for Christmas? It really creeped up on me! I have been perusing all of my favorite blogs and my goodness, there is already some beautiful decor out there!

We have a new computer at our house -yea! We broke down and bought a Dell - I hope this dadgum thing lasts for a good while. Yes, I said dadgum! Our last computer was only 5 years old - is that about the running average for the life a computer?

We are still working on getting all the "info" from our last computer onto our new one. And, this one needs all the software added to it, as well. I still can't upload photos, yet...but, soon!

Do you guys know about the Black Friday ads website? It's awesome! I have done a lot of shopping already, but this site really gets me excited! Yep, I'm on one of those crazies that enjoys getting up early to hit the sales.... You'd almost think retailers would be giving stuff away trying to lure in buyers this year.

We aren't a big Halloween family, but the kiddos are going trick-or-treating tonight and they are so excited!

Here are some interesting tid-bits about pumpkins that I wanted to share with ya'll....

Pumpkin (pepon) is a Greek word for “large melon”.
Pumpkins are actually a fruit - I had no idea!
Pumpkins are a type of squash. They are members of Cucurbita family (cucumbers, zucchini, etc.).
Pumpkins contain potassium and Vitamin A. They are really good for you. I LOVE pumpkin!!
Pumpkins are grown on 6 of the 7 continents (not on Antarctica).
Pumpkin flowers are edible. Again, this is really interesting. Ever tried to eat one?
Pumpkins are 90% water.
Pumpkin sees can be roasted as a snack.
Colonists sliced off pumpkin tops; removed seeds and filled the insides with milk, spices and honey. This was baked in hot ashes and is the origin of pumpkin pie.

We are headed to this....

I am ecstatic! I love Christmas concerts. I had the pleasure of seeing the Amy Grant Christmas tour a couple of years ago - it was excellent. She brought along the Nashville Orchestra and I cannot tell you how beautiful it all sounded. There is nothing like some pretty Christmas music. I love Natalie Grant - she is one of my favorite artists. And look who else is going to be there....Michael English - what a fabulous voice! Did I mention Avalon, too? They are also bringing in Denver and the Mile High Orchestra... love me some good music, ya'll - it is one of my passions.

Hello friends - it's Monday! How did your weekend go? It seems the older I get, the faster the weekend flies by! We had lots of fall festivities this weekend - the kiddos had a blast! I didn't get too many pictures this time, but will post the few that I have soon!

This week I am trying something a little different. I am going to use a lot of what I already have here at the house, rather than go and buy groceries for the week's meals. Easy - peesy!

MONDAY: crock pot chili and homemade cornbread (didn't get to fix it last week)
TUESDAY: tacos
WEDNESDAY: grilled salmon, snap peas and red potaoes
THURSDAY: chicken burgers and beans
FRIDAY: hot dogs - our kid's favorite!

Catalog season is here...boy, is it ever! I probably receive at least 2 a day or so.

I have to admit, I shop out of catalogs, but only from my favorite ones like Lands End. If I see something I like for the kiddos, such as a certain wooden toy, I try to search the internet for the best price. Just recently, Chasing Fireflies landed in my mailbox. Have ya'll seen this catalog? It is the cutest thing - seriously! I had never seen it....a little pricey, but here are some of the things that caught my eye...

Honestly, I don't live an incredibly fascinating life, ya'll. However, I am NEVER bored, that's for sure!

I am usually out of bed by 7 am - sometimes earlier, as hubby is up and out the door by 6:30 am. I so wish that I would just get my big-self out of bed by 6:30 - I could accomplish so much more in the quiet part of the day! (not to mention, eat breakfast with my man) I throw some resemblance of clothing on and off I go. Anyone that knows me, knows that I don't fuss too much with make-up. The best I do usually is getting my teeth brushed and hair combed for the day. I am always in awe of women that get dressed and have their faces on by 8 am - especially with little kiddos at their feet.

I make my bed EVERY DAY! I used to never really care about doing it, but I do now. It is a necessity. Then, I usually have my quiet time with the Lord. It is also a necessity for me - makes my day go so much better!

Around 7:45 am, it's wake-up time for the boys. Here in OK, school doesn't start for the elementary kiddos until 8:50 - LOVE it!! I think it's wonderful for them to have a little extra time in the mornings. I make sure they are getting their beds made, and clothes on and then I head to the kitchen to start breakfast. Once that is under way, I finish lunches. I usually make the boys' lunch the night before, all but their sandwiches. My 4 yr old has MDO on Tu and Th, so he doesn't go everyday.

B is on the bus by 8:30, then I usually get my eggs made (I have eggs nearly every single morning) and finally eat. My daughter is usually up by now, eating and dressed.

I check my list of things to accomplish for the day and away we go! Errands, laundry, play dates, cleaning, whatever. I love mornings - such a fresh start. Sometimes I go ahead and start dinner - especially, if it's a crock pot meal. Meal planning is wonderful! I used to wait till 5:30 to finally figure out what we were going to have for dinner and it never really worked well for my family.

K is usually napping by 11:30. This gives me a little chance to jump on the phone or whatever I need to do with a little bit of quiet.

Lunch time is fun - L requests the same exact thing for lunch everyday. You guessed it - PB&J. He loves them....with a few chips and grapes. K usually eats the same thing. No complaints here - it's super easy!

I used to go to the gym every morning, but have gotten into the practice of going around 1:30 or 2 - early afternoon. I love this time - not many people there and it is pretty quiet. It definitely helps to break up my day.

B (my first-grader) is home by 3:50. We have a snack and talk about his day. Sometimes, we go ahead and get homework out of the way, if he comes home with some. K usually naps again - about 4 pm. If I have an easy recipe for dinner, this is the time I like to fix it.

Dinner time is usually around 6 pm. I have lots of hungry birdies looking my way for food around 5:30, so we try to eat pretty early.

After a little kitchen clean-up, it's off to read, do homework and then baths.

Bedtime is around 8 - 8:30 and then it's quiet again! Whew!

I can then do a few more chores - finish laundry, possibly work on a few crafty things (I'm not all that crafty, really) that you bloggers have inspired me to do, fix lunches, read emails and my facebook page. I might catch some tv, but it is so hard for me to sit down to watch it. Every night, I make my list of things to do the next day. It keeps me on track!

Bedtime is by 11:30 - I have to have my sleep. I have always been a girl that needed at least 8 hours, or I can be a booger-bear to live with!

Happy Wednesday! I am playing the catch-up game this week and am way behind on everything - including blogging! I will get around to visiting each of you soon, promise!

Took a little trip a couple weeks back to one of my favorite little spots - The Trading Post. I have always wanted to show you this fun store and highlight a few of my favorite booths. I felt that I had to grab these pictures really quick - on the fly - because I'm not sure if I was supposed to be taking them. They didn't turn out as well as I hoped, but I was I was trying to do it all "incognito" like so as not to draw too much attention my way. Meanwhile, my daughter is growing increasingly impatient with me and trying to lay her head down on the cart handle, and my 4 yr old keeps asking me (and loudly I might add) "mommy why are you taking pictures of all of this stuff in the store"? I'm sure it was quite the scene!

This booth always has some cute stuff in it - I love how it is displayed. Want to take the silver globe home with me!

Thought these were neat little wooden bowls - really cute stacked together.

Another fun display. Isn't that a fun game board? And what a sweet vintage apron.

Again - this dealer has things displayed really well. I love the little green child's desk and the blue dresser.

I wanted to tell you about a great give-away my sweet friend Leslie is having. She is one of those crafty gals that makes some of the cutest things I have seen, so if you haven't stopped by Glitter and Bliss to enter, do it quick - it ends today! This cute booth belongs to Leslie and her twin sister. I happened to stop in one day while they were there adding items and arranging several things - it is chock full of magnets, frames, and home and seasonal decor. I hope she doesn't mind me posting a picture of it - it's darling!

We had a wonderful time this weekend - it was a quick trip to Dallas, but so nice for just the two of us! Everywhere we ate, we asked to sit away from children. Doesn't that sound terrible? We love our children and know exactly how it feels when kids are acting like monkeys at restaurants. We sometimes don't bother going out with the kids, because we feel like our 18 month old can really cause a scene. It is so not like us to really care where we sit. But, this weekend was the exception - we really wanted our quiet, couple time - and on several occasions, we asked to move to a different table. It actually was really nice!

The wedding was beautiful - very simple, yet incredibly touching. Hubby had to take this picture from his seat as we didn't want to disturb the wedding photographer. Aren't they a gorgeous couple? I am so happy for them!

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Stansky!

We ventured out to the Pumpkin Patch Tuesday. We met L's preschool class there and had a great time with his friends. It was such a nice day - slightly breezy and a bit overcast. Great weather!

Tablescape Tuesday!

Thought we'd have some fun today looking at beautiful fall tablescapes!

This one would be perfect for a casual brunch. I really like the centerpiece and the way they incorporated the iron kettle.

The little pumpkins at each plate are so pretty and aren't the green-rimmed glasses a nice touch? I love how they used the teeny wicker basket to hold packets of sweetener - really cute!

Can you imagine sitting down to eat at this table? Everything is absolutely luscious looking!

What an imaginative setting - hydrangeas, roses, artichoke, and pomegranate - beautiful! Did you notice the baked bread?

Wouldn't this be pretty for a special fall wedding? The lime green hydrangeas really pop against the brown chair cover. Gorgeous!

It has been another crazy weekend here at our home, but we sure had fun!

So jazzed - I received an award! April, over at THIS is what it's all about!, nominated my blog as Brilliant. I met April at my MOPS group in Texas. I so miss all my sweet girlfriends there - I had such a great 5 years with these ladies. Thanks, friend!

We made the caramel apple treats that were in our boo basket last night. The boys had a lot of fun helping me...or rather, tasting the melting caramel - yummy!

Fair Fun

We ventured out to the fair this past Saturday. It was fun and a pretty day to go. We got started quite late, so we weren't able to do as many things as we hoped. But, we really had a ball on a few rides and doing some activities.

Went to the horse pulls - it was very interesting! Each team of horses - usually 2, pulls a sled weighed down with cement bricks. The horses worked so hard, and were pulling literally thousands of pounds!!

This team lives with the Amish most of the year, working their farm and plowing their fields and then goes back home to Missouri for the rest of the year. The owner told me it's "good for their head" to have a change of scenery and do different things.

Enjoyed the petting zoo - it really was a neat area with a baby giraffe, zebras, and other wildlife. I just had to get a picture of this turkey - he was really pretty! We had so much fun listening to his "gobble, gobble".

I love his blue face and black and white feathers - such a great combination of colors!

The boys enjoyed the farris wheel - one of our most favorite rides at the fair. Last year, at the State Fair of Texas, it cost us about $75 bucks for us all to enjoy the Farris Wheel, but that is one heck of a ride, let me tell ya!

Howdy everyone! How was your weekend? I am soo tired - we played hard (had a great time at the fair) and worked even harder! We tackled a front flower bed (removed all the shrubs and rocks) and I think every bone in my body hurts...but, it's a good hurt! I am so glad to get that checked off my to-do list - yay!

I met a sweet soul last week, Holly, (took a photography class she teaches) and she told me about the local co-op. We are going to join and I am so excited! I had a look at all the organic foods that are offered and I can't wait to place my order. This is something that has been on my heart to do for my family for a long time now and I think we will benefit greatly from eating better foods. So, I am going to start planning my meals around the foods I get from the co-op. They offer a lot of variety - organic milk, free-range eggs and even buffalo meat. It should be really interesting and a first step for our family towards healthy living!

Hubby and I are going to go see Fireproof this weekend. I have heard nothing but excellent reviews! It looks really good - and I am a big Kirk Cameron fan. (did I just date myself?)

We are off to the fair this weekend with the family as well. I can't wait to have me a big ol corny dog with lots of mustard. We have been having nice cool days lately, so it should be perfect fair weather. Whohoo!

We've Been Boo'd!

It would appear that it is that time again in our neighborhood - time for boos and treats! I have heard this is a yearly tradition and as a newbie to the "hood" I am so excited to be a part of the fun! An anonymous neighbor rang the doorbell and left this at our door last night right before dinner. Hallmark has all the details for those of you who want to possibly start this in your own neighborhood. Isn't it cute? What a great treat that the whole family can enjoy! Now, let's see...just who will our "victim" be? I think we already have someone picked out. It's going to be so much fun!

I don't eat candy, but if I did, caramels are definitely at the top of my list! I love them and so does my family. The kids are so excited to make caramel apples. We are going to make them this weekend!

This is a fun little poem that explains what to do. A paper ghost was also in the container to hang on our front window so that everyone would know that we have already been boo'd. Can't wait to surprise someone else!!

to peanut butter!

While in Dallas over the weekend, I made a stop at Sprouts. If you have one of these markets near you, count yourself blessed! It is my absolute favorite place to get produce, fresh meats and cheeses and of course, peanut butter. I have to order it from their warehouse in Arizona and pay high shipping costs. We go through one jar probably every 3 days. I make at least 2 PB&J's daily for my youngest 2 kiddos, and we snack on it, as well. This peanut butter has only 2 ingredients: peanuts and salt (the oil sits on top) and really is the best tasting natural PB I have ever eaten. Yummy!

Care to guess how many jars I bought?

If you guessed 40 - yes, 40 - you would be right! The guy that helped me load all of the jars said he'd never quite seen anything like it before. Next time we go, I will be loading up again. There's absolutely no starving going on at my house!

I also picked up a few new things at Sprouts for us to try.

I love Pacific Natural Foods brand. I bought some of their Organic Creamy Tomato Soup and it was simply delicious! I am not a big tomato soup gal, but this specific kind is so tasty. It's perfect for a ladies lunch. Doesn't this look yummy for fall?

Organic Coconut Oil

I'm going to start adding coconut oil to my protein shakes. I had no idea how beneficial this product was until my friend Faith told me about it. She uses it daily and believes that it healed her of her thyroid condition (she doesn't have to take her medication anymore). Here are some facts about coconut oil. Last week, I made the Fiesta Chicken and by far, my hubby said that was the best thing I have made in a while. It was a hit! If your family likes Mexican food this is a great dish to prepare - really yummy!

Happy Monday Ya'll!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I drove down to my old stomping grounds in Dallas to visit one of my sweet friends, Faith. This gal is one of my treasured friends - such a blessing to me! After a season of heartache and pain, God brought a wonderful man into her life and they are going to get married next month. She has such an incredible story of strength and hope in the Lord and all that He has been so faithful to bring her through. Her girlfriends gave her a lingerie shower - complete with a full authentic Italian meal and lots of beautiful gifts and laughter! We all had a great time.

These have got to be the cutest little dessert cakes I have ever seen! They are little fancy bras. One cup is vanilla and one cup is chocolate. They were absolutely delicious, too!

The 3 amigos. These are the hostesses with Faith - Deb and Tessie. All three of these women are some of the most talented ladies I have ever met. Faith is a professional make-up artist, and Tessie and Deb are interior designers. D and T cooked all day to prepare for this shower and everyone raved over the food!

I just had to show ya'll a pic of Deb's entry way ceiling and light. Deb's house really shows her talent. I couldn't get a good angle on the light fixture, but it's gorgeous! Peeking out of the top of the light, are some bronze bunnies...you can just see the tops of their ears. This is a designer fixture and was really expensive, but Deb got a steal on it. Did you notice the fauxed ceiling?

1. I was named by my sweet grandmother (whom I never really got the opportunity to know as she died when I was 3) who suggested naming me after my dad. His name is Jerry - so Jerri Lynn wasn't that much of a stretch!

2. I have a certain affinity for the smell of gasoline - weird, I know!

3. I have severe stage fright/performance anxiety. I grew up playing the piano and while I enjoyed it (still do) I could really never get past my fears about performing in front of others - be it one person or a hundred. It ended up costing me a great piano teacher, too!

4. I've been hot air ballooning in Albuquerque. I don't know if there are adequate words to describe how wonderful that was! Just breathtaking!

5. I have a chair obsession. I would buy just about any cute chair I came across, if I had a place to put it!

6. I had a car accident in high school - all by myself (thank God no one else was involved). Yes, a certain insect - if I remember correctly, a bee - got inside my car and had me so scared that I took my hands off the wheel and started frantically swatting at it, trying to get it out the window. I drove all over the road, up onto a high curb over a bridge, scraping the side of my Corolla on the cement portion of the bridge, and ruined a tire in the process. Needless to say, I cried and my dad was extremely unhappy. Over a bee, ya'll!

7. I love looking at houses - on the outside, yes, but more so on the inside. It gives me inspiration and a ton of great ideas. However, I think my neighbors thought I was very "different" when I asked them if I could see inside their home sometime...not 2 seconds after we first met. Their house is one of the reasons I love my own home so much - cause I can look out and see such a pretty view! Shh...here it is! (do you think they'll catch me?)

Last night, I tried to get some pics of my brood. I need a cute picture for a craft we are making at my MOPS group today. I have a long ways to go with my photography skills, ya'll. I really admire those of you that take great pics! After what seemed like a million clicks of the camera, they had had enough and I had too! K didn't really want to join in on the party and we all laughed at how much she tried so hard not to participate! Why is it so difficult to get 3 kids together to take a picture?

My hubby suggested that we change "venues". We went from the living room to K's bedroom. We ended up getting some precious photos there.

They are such little monkeys! It almost looks as though they are doing the whole "hear no evil, see no evil" thing...

Hello~ Happy Monday Ya'll!

I have to apologize right off the bat - I am soo behind with all my visits to each of you. The past several days have been busy with hubby having the "man procedure" and a ton of one-on-one time with the kids. I needed to spend as much time with my family as I possibly could. I have met such wonderful ladies through my blog, and you are all so dear to me - I will get by to see you soon, I promise!

So, what's on the menu for this week, ya'll? Here's mine!

Monday: leftovers from Sunday - finally made the pizza casserole. There was some good eatin going on here, people! It was a delicious, but heavy meal. If you have high cholesterol or are watching your food choices, you should avoid this like the plague! It is chock-full of cheese, ham, sausage and pepperoni. What good southern girl doesn't like those ingredients? I don't think I am going to make this again for a while....maybe in a couple of months. We don't need any extra around our middles, ya'll. It was really tasty, though. The lady that posted this dish on recipezaar said that she "created" the recipe. I wonder how long it takes a cook to get to the point where he/she just makes up recipes? I would love to be that confident in the kitchen - maybe one day!

Tuesday: tacos - again, hard and soft with homemade guacamole and salsa...we really don't mind having this every week
Wednesday: Fiesta Chicken - on last weeks menu, but I didn't make it
Thursday: Grilled salmon, rice and steamed greens
Friday: leaving for Dallas - yea!

Here's a little find from this weekend. It's such a pretty tray and and quite large. I think it fits perfect on my kitchen counter! Can you guess how much I paid for it? (just one dollar!) I'm telling ya'll, getting up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning can sometimes be well worth it!

Last night I started the candy corn garland. If you think you want to tackle this project, proceed with caution cause it will take you several hours, at least. And my poor fingers sure do hurt! It is hard to slowly push that tiny needle through all of the sugary candies and at least 90% of them break in half and must be discarded. I know it's going to be worth it in the end, though, so I am determined to remain positive! Susie Harris is my hero!

I sat down in my chair, got out my needle and thread and went to work. I gave it a little over an hour and this is what I got done. I need at least 3 strands, so I'm going to work on this every night till it's finished.

The casualties. It doesn't look like a lot, but this is more than I actually have strung. My kids are loving all the discards - a sweet treat!

Here's another picture of a fall display in my home. It just so happens, that 3 of the items you see here are thrifty finds. The only thing I bought new is the bittersweet. The big white pumpkin, sterling tray and even the 100 year old library table (that I adore) all came from tag sales. Gotta love it!

Where Life Happens...

Today at Designing For Life - Kari and Kijsa are asking everyone to post about their favorite spots in their homes and answer a few questions. My most favorite area would definitely have to be this little corner in my bedroom - it has my name written all over it. I love sitting here! It is truly my own space - my own to rest, my own to read, my own to pray, etc. This spot is incredibly special!

The girls asked us to share three things:

1. Where it is in your home: my bedroom
This is a corner that exudes tons of natural light - the windows go almost to the ceiling. I grab a nearby throw, put my feet up and read my Bible or any good book of my choosing. Most mornings I hear the birds singing and chirping outside, while a nice cool breeze lightly blows through the windows. The little Bombay table opens up - the front folds down and I can put all my books in there. It also has a small drawer that holds pens, notepads, and coasters for drinks. And yes, that is a faux plant..and quite dusty I might add!
2. Your favorite style: I'm definitely a traditional girl, with a little bit of french country, modern country and shabbiness thrown into the mix. I would love to have a beautiful home that looks just like it came out of a magazine spread, but unfortunately, my designing skills aren't quite there yet!
3. A favorite item in the room: my fireplace - it is across from my bed and so cozy on brisk mornings. I can turn that sucker on and enjoy its warmth and ambiance. We use it almost every day during the winter.

HAPPY MONDAY!!

Wanted to showcase a great meal we had last week: the turkey meatloaf. It was delicious and easy to prepare! I could not stop myself from having several helpings. If you like meatloaf, this is one recipe to try. It calls for green peppers, and seeing as both my hubby and I really don't care for green peppers, I will delete those from the recipe when I make it again. And I think the next time I will add some mushrooms, which I love!

This weeks menu:

MONDAY: breakfast for dinner: sausage quiche
TUESDAY: tacos - hard and soft
WEDNESDAY: brisket with potato salad, baked beans
THURSDAY: Fiesta Chicken - another crockpot recipe (which I love!)
FRIDAY: we are going to finally try this: pizza casserole. I have had it on my week's menu before, and something always comes up and I haven't made it yet. It looks delish!

It may be hard to tell, but I have linked several of the above recipes. Some of you have asked for a certain recipe, and if you see it highlighted, then it is linked to that particular recipe - just click it and it should come up.

I have a little project I am going to be working on this week. It is the candy corn garland that Ms. Susie Harris features on one of my most favorite blogs, Bienvenue. My kiddos are so excited about helping me make this and I know it'll be so much fun to look at. I will post pictures of it after I'm done. What an inexpensive way to add a "sweet" touch of whimsy to the kitchen chandy!

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am fashion challenged. I can't put a wardrobe together to say my life, ya'll. Accessories? Forget it! I love to decorate my home - hate to try and find any sense of style in my closet. Clothes shopping is the worst for me! I do however, have a few things that really caught my eye for fall....

Where were you seven years ago, today? I remember so much about September 11, 2001. It was just a regular day of appointments, errands, cleaning house and carrying on with the normal pace of life. I was enjoying the early stages of my first pregnancy and basked in the glow of anticipation. Hubby caught the news story first, then I walked in and saw the twin towers burning on the screen. To say that I was worried, afraid, overwhelmed, sad, upset, confused, and incredibly angry is to put it mildly.

America as we knew it was changed in an instant.

But, there is one thing I know..that will NEVER change. God is in control! He cares about every single detail of our lives and we need not ever worry about tomorrow and what it brings. This is a truth that I rest in, each and every day. And for that, I am forever thankful.

For the Itty Bittys....

Thought you all might like to tour one of the cutest playhouses on the planet. It is the Kit Kittredge playhouse that made the rounds at different American Girl Stores in Dallas, New York and Chicago - all in the name of Project Playhouse Charity. This little jewel is approximately 8ft by 10ft and "features the same craftsmanship and quality as the real homes built by the same homebuilders." (HomeAid.org)

I love the green front door - what a warm welcome. The detail on the front is classic cottage style with its stone veneer and shingled roof. Look at the arched window - so darling.

Step inside for a quick view of the wainscoting and wood floors. The wall colors are so cheery and how fun is that robin's egg blue table? I think the typewriter, lamp and radio actually work!

The sweet bookshelf holds vintage toys and a little suitcase on top. I love the stacked hatboxes, too. Did you notice the Dutch door?

I have just the spot in my yard for this....You better believe I'd be playing in it, too!

Monday Menu and Some Thrifty Finds

This weeks menu follows. We deviated some from last weeks menu, so this week we are having the meatloaf recipe from last Friday.

Monday: turkey meatloaf, salad, fresh green beans
Tuesday: tacos, with homemade salsa
Wednesday: chicken pot pie (from Super Suppers) - easy recipe and so delicious!
Thursday: grilled salmon, rice, steamed broccoli
Friday: pizza casserole

I am dying to try these cookies...I avoid sugar, so I will have to tweak the recipe a bit and hopefully, stevia will be ok to use. I LOVE anything pumpkin - yummy!

This past Saturday, I popped out of bed at 7 am, determined to drive my SUV around town and scout the local yard sales. It was a nice, cool morning with a hint of rain in the air. Now, let me tell ya'll my "plan". Yes, I always have a "plan". The night before, I read all the newspaper listings and craigslist g-sale ads. I look for neighborhood sales first - they are usually my best bet, as all the sales are in one area together - makes for quick stops and easy grab-n-gos. I highly recommend neighborhood sales - they are usually never disappointing.... as long as you get there early! Early is the key - dealers are always early ( I have heard some reports of dealers knocking on doors as early as 6 am!) and after they hit a sale, most everything I am looking for is gone.

Next, I look for sales near my area and those neighborhoods that are more pricey and upscale. I write all of the addresses down, along with some sort of general direction for me to follow, so I know where I want to go first, second, third, etc. I think this is a pretty good system, although because I am new to this town, I am still learning what neighborhoods are good and what aren't - for sales.

I found some neat finds at a sale recently in Midtown. Midtown is a neighborhood full of beautiful, stately homes from the 40's and 50's - tons of character. It is the hip place to live in this area. The tree-lined streets hold many mansions as this was where oil tycoons built during the oil boom. As soon as I got there, I saw the line.. Oh, the dreaded line full of dealers, curious joes, and regular ol folks like me waiting for the security gate to open. Waiting, watching, speculating and hoping that by some bit of blessing from heaven we would all find a great deal.

I happened upon this chair. Isn't it fun? I love the zebra print. It could probably stand to be recovered, but I am leaving it as is. It is petite, yet substantial enough to be comfortable and will fit well in my living room next to the piano. The other chair I was considering for this space will be used somewhere else. It was 8 bucks!

I also found this pretty oil - just 5 dollars! It hangs in a spot in my hall.

Here is a rattan tray/table with fold up legs. I put this next to the leather sofa in my hubby's office as a side table, as it is pretty substantial. It brings a bit of whimsy to an otherwise stuffy space. I think it might have been used outside, so I need to find some type of oil to shine up the finish again. Any suggestions? This was 7 dollars.

Sweet Surprises!

Last night, two of my neighbor's kiddos arrived incognito at my doorstep with dinner goodies! Aren't they darling? My sweet friend found out that my hubby was having surgery and offered to bring us dinner - wahoo! I just had to snap a quick pic and got B right in there in the middle of them... He and C are in the same 1st grade class this year and we love that they are together.

I must say the meal was delicious! It was a Mexican chicken dish with sides of rice and beans. She also added yummy cookies for dessert! You treated us so well, Ellen - thank you so much for your sweet surprise!

Speaking of surprises....look what I walked into. Just when it gets quiet...that's when the real trouble begins! Ahh...the fun of q-tips. K sure was having a ball!

I haven't been in the biggest seasonal decorating mood, but today is rainy and crisp - I love it! I would guess that it is about 68 degrees outside - great day to get all my fall totes out of the attic to sort through. I have the windows open throughout the house, letting the cool breezes in. It makes me want to stay in bed, read a great book, and sip coffee all morning!

McCain's Choice....

TOTALLY ROCKS!! ok, let me just say...I love Sarah Palin!! She's a gun-toting, pro-life, gutsy woman and a true maverick on many levels. She "believes in the strength and the power of women, and the potential of every human life". Amen, sister! I think it was an incredibly risky move for John McCain and I respect him for it. This energizes me like no other. I wasn't excited about this race... at all. The candidate I wanted in the White House is no where on the radar screen anymore and I just kind of felt that I was "handed" the choice - McCain - or nobody. I kind of have always felt he leaned much more to the left, than the right. However, his choice of VP really gets me motivated to sticker my car, grab a yard sign, and spread the word. Finally, A Change We Can Believe In!

Menu Plan Monday

Here is what I am making this week. I tweaked the menu this time...just a little, as last week changed a bit. Again, I am trying new recipes from RecipeZaar this week - on Wednesday and also Friday. I just cannot say enough good things about this site. It is simply wonderful for an amateur cook like me. I usually look for the highest rated meals, as those have already been "tested". I also try to serve a green veggie with most meals, which usually means green beans or broccoli as my kiddos will eat them. Honestly, if I can do this - anyone can. If you are frustrated by lack of skill or knowledge, or even picky eaters like I have, just give it try and take it one recipe at a time. It can be done!

MONDAY: Grilled salmon with lemon/garlic/evoo on a bed of rice, served with fresh green beans
TUESDAY: Tacos
WEDNESDAY: Crock Pot BBQ Chicken, served with Baked Potato Wedges
THURSDAY: Spaghetti - my kiddos love this
FRIDAY: Turkey meatloaf, served with steamed broccoli and romaine salad

By the way, the Crock Pot Ravioli was a HUGE hit last week. I added meatballs to the mix and it turned out really well. I won't be making the Country Chick/Veggies again. It was really easy, just not as tasty as I had hoped.

Fabulous Finds Friday

Happy Friday! We are off to West Texas this afternoon on a nice 8 hour drive in the car with 3 small kids. Can you say hell on wheels? I am just praying to the good Lord above that He gets us all through this ( and that I didn't just offend anybody when I just said hell). What's a good mom to do? Well, bribes, movies, surprises, threats of bodily harm (we will stick you outside of this car and make you walk to Snyder), ANYTHING to just get us there in one piece! I am taking Brown Bag Surprises (thanks, Michelle) and going to give those out at different intervals. They are little Brown Bags - lunch sacks - with dollar store goodies inside. I'll also have grapes, crackers, sandwiches and sweets - there's nothing like a little sugar to add to the madness! And oh yes, my favorite - movies! Lots and lots of staring and eye-straining at the little tv in the car, complete with near total silence from the rear. The leapster also garners the same response until one wants it and the other is not quite finished playing. Then, crying and or yelling ensues. Santa is SOO bringing another one for Christmas. Can you say fun times?

Wanted to share with ya'll some finds from recent excursions around town.

Isn't this a cute little Ethan Allen table? It's actually a really nice size and in great condition. I found it at my fave antique store and want to paint it black or do some type of new finish on it. 45 bucks!

A little bees nest (isn't there a different term?) - just 3 dollars!

This is an antique metal newsstand sign. Hubby was born in Abilene and I thought it would go well in his office.

I got 2 of these french chairs on craigslist for 30 dollars each. I need extra seating badly in my formal living room and had to have something small to fit the space. They definitely need some attention! I am kind of at a loss for fabric choices. Any ideas? I love the linen/monogrammed look, but don't know how that would hold up and figure that linen is very seasonal. I would love some suggestions!

Here is an overall shot of the room. It was a little hard to get a good picture in here. The chair sits facing the fireplace, to the left of the piano. It's very tight! I had the hardest time arranging the furniture in this room. I think I moved everything 5 or 6 times and when you move a piano that many times (by yourself)...it hurts! I really didn't want the couch blocking my pretty view, but the piano had to stay and this is the only arrangement that seemed to look ok.

Got me a collapsible tote - love it! I passed by so many of these at Marshall's and could kick myself for it. When I went back, of course, they were all gone! I got this one off of Ebay and want to get it monogrammed. It holds so much stuff and is great for quick trips to the grocery store.

Here are some cute dresses I picked up for K. I could NOT let these go - they were only 7.99 each! I nearly died when I saw the price. Are you able to see the tag that says the original price? 64 dollars, ya'll! They are brand spankin new and smocked...my absolute favorite! One is a 3T and one is a size 5. She is only 17 months, but will be in these before I know it. Aren't they darling?

Thankful Thursday

On a day like today - I need a reminder about all the blessings in my life!

I am thankful for:

1. The Lord's goodness: He has brought me through so many hardships and shows me His new mercies and joy everyday!

2. My sweet family - they mean everything to me

3. New friends here in Oklahoma - you are such an encouragement and have made my transition here so much easier

4. Music - it uplifts and soothes my spirit and brings me joy, especially when K dances and sings while "playing" my childhood piano

5. Clean crisp sheets on my bed

6. My hubby's job (he puts people to sleep). He loves doing what he does and for that I am forever grateful.

7. Learning experiences - although not always easy, I certainly grow and learn from them and realize it is one step closer to my full potential as a woman

8. The changing seasons: I love the fall and all the glorious splendor of colors. I love the crisp breeze in the air. I love sweater jackets, pumpkin breads, football, hay rides and fall festivals. I am looking forward to experiencing my first NE Oklahoma Autumn.

9. Mine and my family's health - such a precious commodity we often take for granted

Here is what I am making this week. I usually only plan for Mon-Fri, but will someday definitely add on Sat and Sun, even though we usually eat out once on the weekend. I am having to take baby steps...a little at a time, people! I have new recipes for Mon and Th that I found using RecipeZaar. I love this site - you can add things to a personal cookbook and it will also add ingredients to a grocery list! I am still in the learning process with menu plans, but it I am really starting to see the benefits of planning for the week. It is so nice to start on a meal in the morning or mid-afternoon and have it done! I am using my crock pot a ton this week - it is so easy! Every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday - hard or soft. I also like to incorporate fish into at least one meal a week. Hubby makes the best darn grilled fish I have EVER had and we have found some really good frozen salmon at Wal-mart of all places. It is "wild catch" and has an excellent flavor.

I am totally immersing myself into becoming Miss Suzy Homemaker.
The cooking part ain't going so well (did I just say ain't?). Case in point. I made beans and cornbread last night. It's a southern staple ya'll and very easy. However, if you fail to notice little annoyances such as expiration dates ...your children will be asking you why there's a certain volcanic opening in the middle. Not pretty.

See that little date? I'd say I was about 3 years too late on this one.

I made Mexican Lasagna on Monday night. Ya'll this stuff will make you wanna slap your momma! Delicious! There's a lot of prep work involved, but it turned out really well and made a ton!

I love this little cookbook. It's got tons of fun recipes from the Junior League of North Harris County. Isn't that a fun title? Junior League cookbooks are the greatest!

Step away from the honey bunnies! These are soo addictive ya'll. And I love that they are organic - none of that high fructose corn syrup in these suckers. Such a tasty treat! You can find these at Target. Trust me, your kids will heart these.

Since the day I started this blogging journey, I have perused tons and tons of other blogs. I especially love blogs that have southern somewhere in the title. The other day, I stumbled upon a girl's blog that was really cute, but it made me stop dead in my tracks. This person is from the east coast - I believe from the South Carolina area. Right there on her about me page it states something like "I'm from the TRUE south". Ok, seriously...just what does that statement mean? I really have never thought about this - ever! Does being from Texas imply that I am not a true southerner? Am I too hick to know how to act and entertain like a southern lady? I hope not. I know how to behave graciously and I'm definitely working on the entertaining part. I try extremely hard to treat everyone with friendliness and hospitality when I meet them and they visit my home. I had a discussion about this with my friend and she said that maybe Texans are perceived as too "redneck" and without all the social graces and old southern traditions that people from Georgia, the Carolinas, Tenn, etc possess. I really can't see where this idea originated, but from one dixie chick to another....it is far from the truth.

I found this cute book. The title is hilarious and it was written by a funny, southern girl - of course! You need to check her out.

The Weekend Visit

One of my best girlfriends, Jen came for a visit this weekend from Tejas. We had a great time! So much to do in just 2 days....but, we had a ball. I really enjoy her and appreciate her driving all the way up here to see me. She brought her sweet son, "Smiley" (my nick-name for him) and he was the best baby. He just turned one and is the cutest thing. Here he is on his first birthday - such a doll!

Here is a fun find at my favorite antique store in "Oklahoma's antique capitol". I love this grapevine pumpkin, it's a nice large size - and I am thinking of adding a really cute fall ribbon to it. I can't wait to get all my fall decor out.

I'll be darned if I didn't take any pics of us! We both don't enjoy having our pics taken, so it's not that big of a deal, but we should have done it anyway. Miss you sweet friend!

I love, love, love etsy. I browse the site a lot and really enjoy buying handmade goods - it just doesn't get any better. I have purchased quite a few things from there.

One of my favorite's is a little plaque that I keep right outside my door. It has really cut down on all the afternoon doorbell ringing...However, I do have my limits. I won't be outfitting my kids in any of these any time soon - what. the. heck?

Two Days and Counting...

Today is Meet the Teacher. I have a ton of emotions going on right now - nervous, excited, happy and sad. Sad that summer is over and another year is starting - in 2 days! Where did the time go? I am very excited that we now have a whole year to spend with B's classmates and teacher as opposed to last year when we came into to the school with about 2 months left before summer. As it turns out, B got an excellent teacher - praise God! I prayed and prayed that He would get someone good and God did it....better than I could have imagined. He also has Miss C in his class, too, which is very exciting. It is so nice for him to already know someone and Miss C is the cutest little girl you have ever laid eyes on. C is the sister of darling boy B, who called K a "carrot" (but, we won't hold that against her).

My dishwasher is on the brink. I loaded the entire thing last night, started it and then drip, drip, drip - all over the floor. This is a Bosch dishwasher - a Bosch! What happened to really good brands lasting forever? I am going to spend a good while today unloading all the dirty dishes and washing everything by hand. I don't have a clue what people did before dishwashers were the norm in kitchens. So.not.fun..

Love me some olympics! I have been soo tired that I haven't been watching each night, but I love me some Michael Phelps, ya'll! This kid is awesome! And, what about that 41 yr old hottie Dara Torres? Are you kidding me? She looks better than half the people I know. This is her 5th Olympic Games - so inspiring!

I have also got to catch up on the women's gymnastics. They are such the competitors .

Got a new toy for my birthday. It is quite overwhelming, but I'm learning to use it. It's a Nikon D60 ya'll and I love it! I am hoping to take a photography class at the local community college pretty soon - I know it will help me learn all the little intricacies I couldn't possibly understand on my own. Why a Nikon? Simply put - it felt the best in my hand. I read and read about Canon vs. Nikon and most argued that you just need to hold it, play with it and get a feel for which camera handles the best for you. It sure does take great pictures and I know once I have all the info I need, I'll be able to produce some rockin photos!

Isn't he the cutest? This is my middle child - L - he is at the sweetest age right now and I love to have him around. We rarely see a day when he isn't dressed in his Spiderman costume. It may be hard to see, but he has the funniest little gray tooth. He fell and hit his front tooth smack-dab on the back of a little plastic chair and that was all she wrote. It died. But hey, thank God it was a baby tooth - not the permanent one!

And here's our baby doll - K. Would you please stop growing? We were at our neighborhood party this weekend, hosted by my sweet neighbor Ellen. Her darling son, B (who is 3), decided that K should be called "carrot". Now, I wonder where he got that from? It was quite amusing, but makes me wonder if we should have named our little red-head K! "K the carrot" is a little too much for me. So, I am apologizing now, K - I am praying to the good Lord above that you don't endure years of the carrot teasing!

I am incredibly sore and tired today. We spent countless hours this weekend cleaning, weeding, mulching and sweating in the back yard. It's not done - have more black ground cover to put down and mulching to add. But, don't it look good, ya'll! I am so happy with the results! Pics to follow..... But, oh, my achin back! I finally got up this morning and hobbled, and I mean hobbled, to the kitchen where I have a row of windows looking out into the backyard. One glimpse at my pretty yard - so. worth. it.

Can't you just hear it? I can just envision all the actors in their "pioneer" get-up belting out the tunes and dancing their little hearts out. I do love me a good musical!

I have to admit that this state, well, I guess mainly T-town is growing on me. There are many things to do here - water activities (tons of lakes and state parks), an aquarium, zoo, art galleries, neat restaurants, fun antique shops, concerts, etc. It is one of the prettiest cities I have ever lived in. It really reminds me a lot of East Texas with all of the trees and hills.

Do I miss Texas? You bet! Would I move back in a heart-beat? Absolutely! Am I enjoying new places, faces, and scenery? No question! Am I ready to call Oklahoma my home? Not quite yet, but I guess you could say this is a new journey and I know God has some exciting things in store for my family here. I am getting there.....

This morning, I watched the GMA interview with Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth (picture from Sparrow Records). SCC has long been a favorite artist of mine and of course, my heart broke for them when they lost daughter Maria in an accident this past spring. If you haven't seen the clip, be sure to check it out. They need your prayers...I honestly cannot fathom the grief they are going through. They spoke of hope many times - and it is only because of our Saviour that we have it.

I am so grateful for my birdies...that they are healthy, happy and mine to hold. I am incredibly blessed!

I love this little plaque. I picked it up at Gordman's, the very first time I ever shopped in one. It spells out my philosophy on home to the "t". Isn't it cute?

You have got to go check out this blog. I love the posts she has just written about "things babysitters wish we knew". They are full of pertinent info - I am copying, pasting and printing those suckers out! Seriously though, it is worthwhile to stop in and check it out. From "how much money should we pay", to the "most helpful instructions to write down", it's almost like a Q&A session - just for parents and sitters. And it appears they are really truthful and forth-coming about it all. Good stuff!

I have been searching for several months now for just the right thing to hang above the toilet in my powder bath. I finally decided to make my own.
Container: $10 at Hobby Lobby - 1/2 off
Feathers: $2 at Hobby Lobby - 1/2 off
Greenery: $3 from yard sale for a big bunch of it
Knowing I spent less than $20 bucks on this pretty arrangement: priceless

Big D got off early today, so we decided to make a run for it and head to a nearby lake. It was great! I think we may have found a neat spot to go - it looks as if they have so much to do for families. So fun!

I was also perusing one of my favorite sites and came upon this feast for the eyes. Doesn't it look yumm-o? I really must have this for breakfast soon.
